Advancing Medical Technology

The UZH Innovation Hub acts as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Zurich. The various UZH Entrepreneur Fellowship programs that are emerging can help excellent young researchers who want to bring their ideas to the market by establishing a spin-off.

Technology and equipment are essential tools in modern medicine. The MedTech Entrepreneur Fellowship program aims to make it easier for junior researchers who have bright ideas for innovations in medical technology to start a business. The medtech sector covers the development of devices, equipment and technical methods in the fields of diagnostic imaging, laboratory and manufacturing equipment as well as IT and healthcare services (e.g. use of machine learning).

UZH places great value on making its scientific findings available to society, and fostering entrepreneurship is key to achieving this. The goal is for fellows to develop their research projects to the point of having a marketable product and for them to establish a spin-off at the end of their fellowship.

Applying for a fellowship

The program is open to UZH students and PhD candidates who have come up with a business idea based on their research and who have the mentoring support of a professor.

Candidates for the fellowship are selected by a panel of UZH and industry experts. Selection criteria focus on the innovative potential of a project, its scientific excellence and high economic feasibility. The candidates’ personal potential and entrepreneurial spirit are also taken into account.

Interested candidates can find further information about how to apply on the UZH Innovation Hub’s website.
