Children’s University of Zurich

The Children’s University of Zurich (Kinder-UZH) inspires curious young minds to explore and understand the wonders of our world. By offering playful insights into university research, it sparks a lifelong interest in science and discovery.

Donate now and give the gift of learning

For more than 20 years, children in grades 3 to 6 have been able to register free of charge for Kinder-UZH lectures and workshops, getting their first real taste of life at the University of Zurich. Participation is open to all – regardless of school performance – and involves no tests or grades. Every year, more than 3,500 children take part in the program.

For many, Kinder-UZH is more than just a visit to a lecture hall: it’s the moment when curiosity is awakened – and the joy of learning rekindled.

Awakening curiosity and encouraging critical thinking

In just a decade, today’s children will be young adults. The Children’s University of Zurich nurtures their curiosity about current issues and encourages independent, critical thinking. Lectures and workshops often explore topics at the heart of today’s social debates, helping children engage early with key questions such as: Why is there war? What digital footprint do we leave with our smartphones? How is artificial intelligence used in medicine?

Touring the classrooms

One of the main goals of the Children’s University of Zurich is to appeal to children regardless of their social background. Studies have shown that it is more difficult for children from non-academic families to access higher education, among other things because they lack role models. The Children’s University has adopted several measures to attempt to reduce this inequality.

The Kinder-UZH on Tour project, for example, gets UZH instructors to visit schools and teach two lessons on a particular topic which is chosen together with the class teachers. The project focuses on schools with a higher social mix.

«Our goal is to get children excited about science, to encourage them to think for themselves and at the same time to make them curious about university and its possibilities. Your donation will help us achieve this.»

Prof. Dr. Moritz Daum, Professor of Developmental Psychology, University of Zurich

Support the Children’s University of Zurich

We want every interested child to continue benefiting from this free program in the future. While the Children’s University of Zurich receives basic funding from UZH, it depends on private donations to offer its full range of activities.

Every child – whether they later pursue academic studies or an apprenticeship – should experience that learning can truly be fun. Your support helps secure the program for the long term and keep it accessible to everyone.

As a token of appreciation, you’ll receive a thank-you gift corresponding to your donation amount.

Would you like to deepen your commitment? You can sponsor a workshop or excursion for CHF 1,500, or a lecture for CHF 5,000. Get in touch with us.
